High-end refurbishment of an apartment in Uccle: a refined modern classic

Situated on the upper floor of a residential building in Uccle, this 200 m² apartment was completely redesigned for a couple looking to transform a traditional interior into a brighter, more contemporary and warmer living space. The original layout, defined by classic finishes and heavier tones, needed clarity, simplicity and a stronger sense of coherence.

Home Design carried out a full refurbishment: light oak parquet flooring, new black window frames, brighter wall surfaces, reconfigured views around an open SieMatic lacquered kitchen, extensive bespoke joinery in brushed larch, a serene master bedroom, and a bathroom connected visually through a glass partition.

The finished interior is both graphic and soft, defined by the interplay of light wood, black accents and white surfaces, creating a timeless, urban and harmonious atmosphere.

A bespoke interior design project for an apartment in Uccle

The owners wished for an apartment that felt lighter and more breathable: more daylight, fewer heavy elements, cleaner lines and durable materials. They were not seeking a spectacular or ostentatious décor, but rather an elegant, calming environment that would remain comfortable over time. The original apartment lacked fluidity, with dark finishes and decorative features that belonged to another era. Home Design proposed a complete aesthetic transformation built on a simple palette: light oak for warmth, black for structure, and white for luminosity. The goal was to modernise the space without erasing its character, preserving a refined atmosphere and a timeless sense of balance.

Opening the space and modernising the interior without structural changes

One of the strengths of this project lies in the fact that no major structural work was required; no load-bearing walls were modified, allowing the focus to be placed on how the rooms connect and communicate. The living area was reorganised around an open kitchen located at the far end of the room. A partial dividing wall was intentionally preserved to create a soft transition between the preparation area and the lounge, while maintaining visual continuity throughout the space. The new joinery and black frames punctuate the openings and add depth to the perspectives. The apartment is now more fluid, more readable and far more inviting, without compromising the logic of its original layout.

An open SieMatic kitchen that defines the living area

The SieMatic kitchen, finished in lacquer, adopts a clean and understated aesthetic. Its design subtly echoes the classical codes of the S2 Classic line, with balanced proportions and clearly defined contours. Being open to the living room, it allows the owners to prepare meals while remaining connected to the life of the home. The carefully selected materials create a graphic presence without feeling cold: the kitchen forms a natural continuation of the light oak flooring and black joinery, strengthening the dialogue between the different living zones.

Bespoke brushed-larch joinery: a unifying element throughout the apartment

Bespoke joinery is one of the hallmark features of this project. Crafted in the workshop, it discreetly shapes the identity of the apartment: built-in storage, shelving, brushed-larch furniture lacquered in black, including a TV unit with an integrated electric lift. These made-to-measure pieces provide practical solutions while visually structuring the space, enhancing the subtle balance between light wood and black accents. This approach avoids standardised furniture and creates a truly personalised interior where every element has intention and purpose.

A luminous master suite connected to its bathroom

The master bedroom was designed as a calm, understated retreat. Soft tones dominate, with minimal furniture and integrated storage to maintain clarity. The adjoining bathroom is separated by a glass partition, allowing natural light to flow between the two spaces and giving a greater sense of volume while preserving privacy. In the bathroom, materials were chosen for their gentle visual appeal, extending the atmosphere of serenity created in the bedroom and ensuring a coherent ensemble.

Result: a bright, bespoke and contemporary apartment in Uccle

This refurbishment illustrates Home Design’s approach: modernising without excess, shaping interiors around the owners’ lifestyle and enhancing the beauty of materials. With light oak parquet, a SieMatic open kitchen, black window frames, brushed-larch bespoke joinery and a luminous master suite, the apartment now combines graphic elegance with everyday comfort. Nothing feels superfluous; everything has been resolved with precision. The light circulates more freely, volumes feel calmer and storage integrates seamlessly into the architecture. This project demonstrates Home Design’s ability to craft refined, bespoke interiors that are both contemporary and timeless.
