Understanding the Clients’ Expectations
From the very first discussions, the couple expressed their wish to transform this villa into a coherent living environment, where every space would naturally align with the rhythms of family life. Their priority was to bring back openness and light to a house whose interior layout was still very compartmentalised. They also wanted to personalise each level, from the living areas to the attic, with bespoke solutions and atmospheres adapted to each function.
Home Design therefore began by analysing the volumes, identifying structural constraints and determining the interventions necessary to meet the couple’s expectations. This preparatory phase laid the foundation for the project: opening, rebalancing, redistributing, modernising — all while respecting the villa’s original character. This groundwork helped define the direction of the high-end villa renovation the owners had envisioned.
Reworking the Volumes: A Bright and Open Ground Floor
The ground floor originally consisted of a succession of small closed rooms, decorated with floral wallpaper and interior doors that divided circulation. The Home Design team chose to transform this fragmented layout into a large, fluid living space by removing all interior partitions, widening the openings and installing continuous parquet flooring across the entire level. This first intervention brought air, light and unity to the entire space. This architectural approach reinforces Home Design’s signature: creating continuous, bright, naturally connected living spaces.
A SieMatic Kitchen as the Centrepiece
In this new composition, one feature quickly emerged as the heart of the project: the kitchen. The clients dreamed of a place where cooking, entertaining and gathering would come together — a space that would be both elegant and warm. The choice naturally turned to a SieMatic kitchen in black lacquered oak, whose deep tone echoes the black window frames and other dark joinery throughout the ground floor. The worktop and splashback in Nero Marquina marble accentuate this assertive character: white veining, strong mineral presence, impeccable finish. In this kitchen, a subtle dialogue unfolds between the strength of black, the warmth of wood and the lightness of the walls, creating a coherent and deeply contemporary composition. This bespoke black kitchen perfectly reflects Home Design’s expertise in designing functional and refined living spaces.
Bespoke Joinery: Identity and Interior Coherence
The black joinery, chosen as a guiding thread, punctuates the entire ground floor. The custom-made TV unit in brushed and lacquered larch is one of the emblematic pieces of the project. Crafted in the workshop, it plays with the wood grain and light, integrating naturally into a structured and elegant atmosphere.
This bespoke craftsmanship also extends to the redesigned fireplace, integrated storage, the dressing room and all the discreet technical elements that subtly structure the spaces. Together, they contribute to a cohesive custom-made interior and reinforce the identity of the villa.
A Fully Redesigned First Floor
Upstairs, the transformation took a radical turn: none of the existing bedrooms met the couple’s expectations. Home Design therefore removed all partitions to completely rethink the layout. The new master suite was inspired by boutique hotels: deep black carpet, a subtle palette and integrated furniture with clean lines. The white dressing area creates a deliberate contrast that lightens the entire floor. This complete reorganisation demonstrates Home Design’s ability to reinvent volumes to create functional and harmonious living spaces.
The two bathrooms
The master bathroom embraces a darker, more contemporary aesthetic, perfectly aligned with the masculine accents found throughout the project. It is designed in Nero Marquina marble, a deep black stone marked with striking white veining. The custom-made joinery and finishes follow the same dark palette, creating an elegant, graphic and highly sophisticated atmosphere. In contrast, the children’s bathroom introduces a bright and gentle ambiance. It is crafted in Carrara marble, a soft white stone with delicate veining, chosen for its luminosity and sense of serenity. This material creates a calm, light-filled environment perfectly suited to a family space.
Transforming the Attic into Additional Living Spaces
The attic was also completely redesigned. Previously underused technical areas were transformed into a fully functional level: an additional bedroom, a second bathroom and a home gym now occupy these volumes. Thanks to bespoke joinery and intelligent spatial optimisation, this upper floor has become a natural extension of the home. This enhancement of the attic demonstrates the importance of an interior architect in optimising existing volumes during a villa renovation.
Result: Harmony, Coherence and Contemporary Elegance
Beyond aesthetic and technical decisions, this renovation was marked by a constant dialogue with the clients. “We were in contact every two days; we had to be extremely flexible,” explains the interior architect. This ongoing involvement made it possible to adjust every detail without compromising overall coherence, while meeting an exceptional timeline: nine months for a complete renovation including demolition, rebuilding internal walls, technical installations, joinery and all finishes. Today, the villa fully reflects the owners’ original ambition: a contemporary, warm and open interior perfectly adapted to family life.
The SieMatic kitchen, the centrepiece of the ground floor, embodies this transformation: elegant, graphic and inviting. Home Design delivers a project where every line, every material and every bespoke detail contributes to a rich, coherent and deeply personal piece of high-end interior design.
In summary, this complete luxury home renovation was carried out in just nine months and demonstrates Home Design’s mastery in transforming contemporary villas in Walloon Brabant.
